Sting and Hulk Hogan feuding in 1997 wasn’t ridiculous (minus their Starrcade match), but the two going at it in 2011 was absolutely ridiculous. It wasn’t just the fact that they were in their 50s, and that they were overshadowing everyone else on the roster that made it so absurd. It’s the fact that Hogan was unable to safely take a bump in the match!

Hogan had horrifying back surgery the prior year. He shared graphic photos online, and it looked like that was the right time to hang it up. But, the man wanted to dangle the carrot in front of Dixie Carter that he could conceivably get back in the ring. That helped to justify the gigantic paycheque they were giving him.

The match vs. Sting relied on punches, back rakes, eye pokes; the usual Hogan affair, but it was so much slower and silly to watch. For a company that needed to differentiate itself from the competition, they went in the exact opposite direction by going over a decade back in time.

Oh yeah. Hogan went into the match as a heel, and once again Hulked up and beat up an entire stable during his face turn. Classic Hulk!

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
