Vince McMahon would like very much for you to associate his brand with anything other than that wrasslin’ nonsense. For example, he drools at the prospect of earning the same amount of prestige and exposure the NFL does, as evidenced by the XFL debacle. But five years before Vince tried and failed to make a football league, he unleashed the RAW Bowl unto the world just in time for college bowl season and the NFL playoffs.

In a match that pitted the 1-2-3 Kid & Sycho Sid vs. The Smokin’ Gunns vs. Owen Hart & Yokozuna vs. Razor Ramon & Savio Vega, this was actually WWE’s first Fatal 4-way match (sort of). Its rules were so ridiculous, that WWE themselves made a video making fun of it:

As hilarious as it is to see WWE willfully bury their own creation, that video lies at the end. They actually did the RAW Bowl twice, with it making a comeback in 1997. Only this time, it was for an episode of Superstars, and thus called the Superstars Bowl. That match pitted the Nation of Domination vs. Doug Furnas & Philip LaFon vs. The Godwinns vs. Owen Hart & The British Bulldog. This time, there was no green ring, and everyone was dressed as themselves (aside from the Godwinns, who had jerseys under their overalls). The New Generation Era was generally chockful of absurdity, but the fact that WWE would try this match again is absurd.
