Charles Wright had to go through a lot of crappy gimmicks before he found real success in the WWF. First he was the voodoo practitioner Papa Shango, which bombed badly and is generally considered one of the worst gimmicks in wrestling history. Then there was Kama, a UFC-inspired shootfighter gimmick which also tanked. Adding Mustafa to the end of Kama, the Nation of Domination was decent but was mainly used as a vehicle for The Rock. Following the disbanding of the Nation, Wright debuted his Godfather persona. The Godfather was a fun-loving pimp who was accompanied to ringside by his ho's (usually local strippers). The fact that the WWF would have a pimp character was pretty risqué in and of itself but bringing women to ringside and objectifying them tipped it over the edge. It wasn't particularly tasteless or tawdry, but it definitely pushed the buttons of some who felt the WWF was going to far. These included the Parents Television Council, who singled out The Godfather was one of the moral ills of the WWF programming. The WWF responded pushing a stable called the Right To Censor consisting of The Godfather (now the Goodfather), Bull Buchanana, Ivory, Steven Richards and Val Venis. The Godfather has made sporadic appearances since and always provokes a reaction from fans who remember him and his very un-PG ho's. The gimmick probably worked so well because Charles Wright actually does own and operate a strip club called Cheetah's in Las Vegas.
