9. Eddie Gilbert Runs Over Jerry Lawler (1990)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G27ssw7Np4c In 1990, Eddie Gilbert was the top heel in Jerry Lawlers USWA promotion based out of Memphis. Lawler was the permanent resident, and his role as top babyface often involved feuding with a new heel, who would stay in the promotion for a few months, before being vanquished and moving on elsewhere. It was the way of the territories. Gilbert and his brother Doug were in the studio for Memphis wrestlings traditional Saturday morning TV show. They got into a verbal altercation with the on-screen General Manager, Eddie Marlin, who fired them. As Marlin escorted Gilbert off the premises, the altercation turned physical and Gilbert shoved Marlin to the ground. Jerry Lawler then came out to ensure that the Gilberts left the scene. Eddie got into his car, which was conveniently waiting for him out of its parking space, and sped towards Lawler, who took one hell of a bump over the bonnet and windscreen of the car and was left lying on the tarmac. Unfortunately, the angle backfired. Several viewers called the local police upon witnessing what they believed what a genuine vehicular assault. Lawler had to call the police himself to reassure them that it was not real and that no charges needed to be pressed. He even had to reappear on Memphis television much earlier than planned, selling his injuries, out of concern for Gilberts safety and civil freedom.
