At Summerslam 2000, The Rock defended the WWF Title against Triple H and Kurt Angle in a Triple Threat encounter. Just 2 years later, a new face on the horizon stood victorious over The Rock, clutching the WWE Undisputed Title in his hands. That man was Brock Lesnar, who had only made his first appearance on the main roster the night after WrestleMania X-8. Mere months after his debut, Lesnar won the King Of The Ring tournament, at the last ever Pay-Per-View bearing the same name. Clearly, management believed in their new charge, even aligning him with Paul Heyman to cover up the deficiencies Brock had on the microphone. Summerslam 2002 featured the return of an old-stager, as Shawn Michaels vanquished Triple H in a wild brawl, but it would arguably be Lesnar who would steal the show, having a remarkably well-worked match with The Rock in the main event. WWE must have known then that they had the potential for something huge on their hands, but it'd only get better.
