The very same night, another woman realised a dream.

Then-heel Carmella cashed in her 'Miss. Money In The Bank' privileges on Charlotte Flair to become the new SmackDown Women's Champion later in the night. It wasn't a popular decision with the live crowd, and some moaned on social media about beating Flair 48 hours after she'd toppled Asuka, but it was a shock.

Pro wrestling loves pulling a swerve like this, and it gave WWE an excuse to promote Carmella without really sh*tting all over Charlotte; in spite of those complaints from some, the writers handled the moment expertly by having the debuting IIconics beat Flair up seconds before 'Mella came down to make bank on her briefcase.

Within moments, WWE had two fresh feuds for Charlotte on their hands. One against Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, and another against the new champ Carmella. They were still doing automatic rematches back then too, so Backlash had an easy title rematch.
