5. Batista Says HBK Never Does The "Job" (2008)

A full 11 years before he'd be readying himself for a match against Shawn Michaels' best friend at 'Mania 35, Batista was burying ol' HBK for putting his pal Ric Flair out to pasture at XXIV. Two nights after that emotional retirement match in Orlando, 'The Animal' criticised Shawn for not doing "the job".

Yes, he literally used those words.

When Vince Russo had stopped drooling, he likely enjoyed hearing Batista then claim that Michaels should've done the right thing and let Ric go out on a high. The weight of reality behind Batista's words were out of place with everything else happening on WWE TV at the time, and that's what made them so impactful.

This would lead to a match between the pair at Backlash and parlay into 2008's feud of the year between Shawn and a freshly-turned Chris Jericho. We've all got big Dave to thank for re-injecting Michaels' career with a dose of shoot commentary that directly fed into Y2J's complaints about his former hero.
