WWE Chronicle: Jeff Hardy

Though we have seen Jeff Hardy’s alcohol addiction liberally used for storyline fodder, it is shocking to hear Hardy talk about the reality of his struggles.

The documentary opens with a hard-hitting question posed to Hardy: “Was there a moment where you really felt like you let your family down?” He describes being bailed out on 3 October 2019. Upon his arrival home, his family had stacked chairs in front of the door, a sign that he wasn’t welcome back home

Hardy pinpoints his knee injury incurred competing in WrestleMania 35’s André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. To cope with his injury and insecurity, he admits that prior to his arrest he was “drinking crazy amounts of alcohol” and blacking out “all the time”. He describes a heart-breaking moment when he blacked out on his porch and his then four-year-old daughter Nera brought him a blanket and a pillow. When he woke the next morning, Nera told him: “I helped you out, Dad. I’m still your best friend, even when you’re drunk”.

Though it is shocking and unsettling to frankly hear of Jeff’s rock bottom, the documentary captures a triumph over addiction and personal demons.
