10 Most Shocking Upset Victories In WWE History
7. Santino Marella Beats Umaga
This win was especially shocking, because we had absolutely no idea who Santino was at this time.
During an episode of Raw being taped in Milan, Italy, Mr. McMahon selected Santino "randomly" from the audience to battle Intercontinental Champion, Umaga, in a No Holds Barred match for his championship.
Santino, understandably, got the snot beaten out of him by The Samoan Bulldozer, but his luck would turn when Umaga's rival, Bobby Lashley, ran out and interrupted the match.
With a massive Spear, Lashley floored Umaga and dumped Santino's beaten body on top of his opponent as the referee counted the pin. Santino had just won his first championship in his very first match with WWE.
It remains one of the best WWE debuts of all time, because fans genuinely had no idea who Santino was and his story of being plucked from the crowd "at random" resonated with so many people who dreamed of the day that would happen to them.
Santino would go onto have a very successful WWE career as a loveable goofball and that was all made possible thanks to the Miracle in Milan.
