10 Most Shocking Wrestling Heel Turns
5. Pupil Turns On Teacher
There's a reason everyone knew that James Ellsworth was going to betray Dean Ambrose last year, and this was it. Colin Delaney, the James Ellsworth (only more likeable) of his day, turning on one-time mentor Tommy Dreamer.
But while Ellsworth, however tenuous his grip on reality, at least had a motive - his belief that he could win the WWE Championship from AJ Styles - Delaney costing Dreamer in his ECW Title match with Mark Henry at The Great American Bash in 2008 made exactly no sense.
Without the veteran watching his back, Delaney was once again vulnerable to the attacks from which he was, for a short while, immune - not least of all from Dreamer himself, who beat him in an Extreme Rules match a couple of weeks later by way of recompense.
If the logic was missing, the shock value definitely wasn't. No-one expected Delaney to turn heel because no-one really believed that this obvious jobber, 140lb soaking wet, was going to stick around long enough to warrant any character development (and, sure enough, he didn't - getting released the following month).
