6. Bob Backlund Vs Diesel - WWE Madison Square Garden House Show 1994

One of the more peculiar returns in wrestling history was when the second longest reigning WWE Champion of all time, Bob Backlund, returned to the company after almost a decade. The star of the late-'70s and early-'80s looked like a relic amongst younger stars of the New Generation Era such as Razor Ramon, Shawn Michaels, and The Undertaker.

Because of this, it was very surprising that Backlund managed to capture the WWE Championship for a second time by defeating Bret Hart for the accolade. 'The Hitman' was the biggest star in the company at the time, and having the veteran defeat him was not a popular decision at all, particularly since there were so many young talents waiting to be pushed to the top.

The way that Backlund lost the title was even more shocking, as he only held the title for three days before dropping it to Diesel at a house show in Maddison Square Garden. In hindsight, it is clear that this was a transitional title reign to give Kevin Nash his first World Title in WWE. Still, pushing the old timer to such a position seemed needless given that there were plenty of capable heels on the roster.
