1993 was an interesting year in the WWF. The bulk of the '80s mainstays - like Ultimate Warrior, Jake Roberts, and Randy Savage - had either left the company or stepped aside, while Hulkamania itself was on life support.

Fans had not been in favour of the red and yellow in '92 and Hogan's subsequent hiatus from the company was a welcome one. That absence was particularly timely as the WWF was experiencing a storm of negativity stemming from the infamous steroid scandal.

With Hogan and Co. out, a youth movement was beginning to take shape. The 26 year old Yokozuna had won the Rumble and Bret Hart was amid his first reign as WWF Champion, leading to a fresh showdown of talent at WrestleMania and only the second Hogan-less main event in the show's history.

Unfortunately, much like the last headline bout without Hogan (WrestleMania IV - Savage vs. DiBiase), 'The Hulkster' couldn't let the show close without him and he made an appearance at the end of the Bret/Yokozuna title bout.

With Yoko victorious, the champ's manager, Mr Fuji, laid out a nonsensical challenge to Hogan, who had equally inexplicably made his way to ringside. Moments later, a spontaneous title showdown was underway and, with one lariat and a leg drop, Hogan became WWF Champ for the fifth time.
