10 Most Shocking WWE Superstar Releases Of 2014

1. CM Punk

It€™s crazy to think that in a year that featured an abrupt firing and rehiring of an Australian Diva for shoplifting a $21 iPad case and a firing of a former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion because of an altercation that involved racism, that CM Punk€™s WWE departure is still easily the most shocking and interesting. After his tell all appearance on his friend Colt Cabana€™s Art Of Wrestling Podcast, the circumstances of his departure have been that talk of the wrestling world, which only goes to show how much he was truly beloved by wrestling fans. Even the ones who hate his guts now, only do because they once loved him. Punk walked out of the WWE the night after the Royal Rumble, due to the accumulation of injuries, creative frustration, and for the lack of a better word, burnout. He gives the impression that despite his feeling towards the company and his bosses at the time he left, he was open to a return to the company, and feeling he expressed to Triple H days before he was to be wed and go on his honeymoon. At least that was the case until the WWE brass took things too far in his opinion by serving him his release papers on his wedding day in June. Not only was it a shock to find out that any of this had happened, it was fascinating to find out that it was at that moment that any hope of a CM Punk return to WWE were dashed, if you take his word for it. Quite frankly, he has every right to hold that kind of grudge because the wedding day stunt was a below the belt shot by a multi-million dollar corporation. So many aspects of his departure have become interesting topics of discussion among wrestling fans. Whether it was the way their medical staff allegedly treated him and his many ailments, the way that he viewed the political games of the WWE, or the fact that he feel like he failed because he never main evented Wrestlemania, there isn€™t an angle on the Punk release that isn€™t infinitely more fascinating than any WWE departure in history. Punk recently signed a deal to fight for UFC and has seemingly moved on from pro wrestling. It is incredibly depressing that he views his WWE career the way he does, and even more depressing that he in all likelihood won€™t ever return to the WWE. He€™s sorely missed, and his release on his wedding day is the single most shocking and impactful WWE release of 2014.
