10 Most Shocking WWE Superstar Releases Of 2014

7. Drew McIntyre

Another one of the casualties of June 12th was Drew McIntyre. This guy was under contract for 7 years with the WWE, and was only 28 at the time of his release. While it might not be a shock to see that a member of 3MB was released, it certainly was surprising to see that he had been given his walking papers. This was the same guy that Vince dubbed "the Chosen One" on TV in 2009. He was tall, he was handsome, he had flowing brown locks of hair, and the guy was for all intents and purposes what a wrestler would look like if you were asked to chisel the ideal WWE Superstar out of granite. Furthermore, his youth suggested that there were still several years left to figure it out with him. He hadn€™t even hit his 30s yet. The guy had a lot of ability and a lot of potential, and it was simply shocking to see the WWE cast him aside after 7 years, even if all he was doing at the time was being a clown with 3MB. He could have been repackaged as anything at any time and taken off. That€™s the beauty of the business, somebody can go from Husky Harris to Bray Wyatt. It€™s surprising that the WWE never tried a babyface run with McIntyre. He had a look that would make the ladies swoon, and a physical stature that kids could have gotten behind. He looked like a superhero or warrior, and having a babyface run as a hero might have done him some good. Hell, you could have had him and JTG become a Spartan tag team of some sort. It€™s an unlikely pairing that could have caught on. Almost anyone would say that they gave up on McIntyre too early, but seeing as he wasn€™t picked up soon afterward by TNA or ROH, might be an indication of his stock in the wrestling world right now.
