It's hard to fathom now but there was once a point when Stephanie McMahon was the WWE Women's Champion. Her first and only title reign was merely a vehicle to get her more over as a heel. Although it worked, it relegated a once prestigious championship to nothing more than a prop.

This changed when she defended the championship against Lita in the main event of Monday Night Raw in August 2000. Not only was this the first time that a women's match was the last bout of the night on said show, it also featured The Rock as the special guest referee. If that wasn't enough Kurt Angle, Triple H, and The Hardy Boyz were all at ringside, cheering on their respective counterparts.

Ultimately this match was booked to further bolster interest in that year's SummerSlam main event between Triple H, Angle, and The Rock. Let's not take anything away from Lita or Stephanie, though, as they went above and beyond to put on a very enjoyable main event, which gave Lita her first ever title victory.
