7. Booker T Vs. Triple H Racism Angle Ends With Heel Victory (WrestleMania XIX)
Angles which deal with the subject of racism are a truly tough sell. Whereas fans appreciate bad blood between performers in a storyline context, it's genuinely difficult to incorporate unsavoury topics from real life - like war, race and religion - into things and make it work.
That didn't stop WWE from trying in the run up to WrestleMania XIX. Admittedly, things may have worked had the organisation not completely flunked their own idea. To hype up a World Heavyweight Title bout between Booker T and Triple H, the latter assessed that "people like Booker" didn't belong in the upper echelons of wrestling.
Instantly, this came across that 'The Game' was belittling Booker because of his skin colour. It's not hard to imagine people across the world immediately getting more than a little uncomfortable at his verbiage.
Things could have been rectified by having the babyface rally and vanquish the bigot, but that didn't happen.
Come 'Mania, Triple H handily defeated his foe. Worse, he stalled for an unnecessary amount of time post-Pedigree before he decided to pin the challenger. It was a dispiriting loss for Booker, and the race angle felt shoe-horned in and unnecessary.
