10 Most Successful Things WWE Borrowed From Other Promotions
7. Factions (WCW)
You only have to look as far as Ric Flair's Four Horsemen for proof that the New World Order - whatever Eric Bischoff says - wasn't the first example of a faction in professional wrestling.
But a faction that was a thorn in the side of the establishment? A faction that regarded the established wrestling rule with shoulder-shrugging indifference? A faction that wore matching T-shirts that could be marketed to edgy '90s teenagers? That was WCW.
D-Generation X was almost certainly inspired by the success of WCW's nWo, and though it never reached quite the same heights, that can probably be attributed to the ill-timed injury to front-man Shawn Michaels in early-1998 (and even then, it still did reasonably well after the reboot - and remained a marketing machine for years to come).
