Just ahead of the Briscoes on the list we have the Briscos. It would seem that losing a vowel could do wonders for Mark and Jay, as their namesakes (sort of) amassed a grand total of 18 NWA Tag Team Championships over a variety of promotions in the 1970s and '80s. Jack actually trained Gerry, and the latter made his debut in wrestling in a tag team with his brother.

The Briscos dominated the NWA tag world for an entire decade, but it is two decisions they made outside of the ring that were arguably their most influential moves. It was Gerry and Jack who first discovered a then-unknown Terry Bollea, who would subsequently go on to become a dude called Hulk Hogan who revolutionised wrestling .

The brothers also managed to convince the majority of shareholders in Georgia Championship Wrestling to sell up to Vince McMahon, allowing Vince to further grow his expanding professional wrestling empire.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
