10 Most Surprising PPV Headliners In WWE History
4. R-Truth - Capitol Punishment 2011
Having turned heel at the Extreme Rules event the previous month, R-Truth was amid the biggest push of his WWE career in 2011. With a more vicious, serious and maniacal edge to his character, the character was more reminiscent of the Ron 'The Truth' Killings persona from NWA: TNA, back when he was also NWA World's Heavyweight Champion.
Sadly, the seriousness didn't last and the finish of the WWE Championship match between Cena and Truth at Capitol Punishment was a shining example of just that. Truth grabbed a drink off a "fan" with the intention of throwing it in the fan's face, only to have second thoughts. The "fan" reacted by throwing the drink back in Truth's face allowing Cena to hit the AA for the win.
Despite the emasculating manner of the loss, Truth would go on to main event one more PPV that same year. However, on that occasion, it would be as a supporting player in the on-going Cena/Rock WrestleMania feud. Teaming up with The Miz as Awesome Truth, Killings would face The Rock and John Cena in the main event of Survivor Series at MSG, in what must be considered the pinnacle of his career.
