10 Most Surreal Moments In UFC History
5. The Sale Of The UFC In 2016
Anyone who knows the history of the UFC will probably already be aware of just how many times the company has been close to having to close its doors.
When Dana White implored his friends the Fertitta brothers to buy the struggling organisation in 2001 for $2million, the casino owner's accountants repeatedly advised them that purchasing the UFC was not a wise investment and it would not be profitable.
And for some years, they were right...
In fact, before the first season of The Ultimate Fighter, it has since emerged that the UFC was close to being put up for sale once again, with Shane McMahon of all people rumoured to be interested.
Luckily for MMA fans everywhere though, the Fertitta brothers persisted, and the fight between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar at the TUF Finale was an instant classic and helped propel the sport into the mainstream in the US.
In the years that followed the UFC continued to grow in popularity, and in 2016 it was announced that the organisation had been sold for an eye-watering $4billion.
After over a decade in charge of the UFC, the Fertitta's selling the company they had made profitable was unbelievable and definitely deserving of a place on this list.
