10 Most Surreal Moments In UFC History
4. Chuck Liddell Finally Fighting Wanderlei Silva
These days the UFC has the vast majority of the world's elite fighters under contract, and rarely do fans not get to see the two best guys in the world in the same weight class compete in the Octagon. (I write as a single tear rolls down my face thinking about Khabib versus Ferguson)
Back in the mid-2000s though, some of the world's greatest fighters fought in PRIDE Fighting Championships in Japan, leaving fans having to hypothesise what would happen if the best of both organisations faced off to determine the true world champions.
However, none of these dream fights were quite as highly anticipated as a fantasy bout between Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva.
Both men possessed fan-friendly hyper-aggressive striking styles and strong anti-grappling abilities that had allowed them to rise to the top of their respective divisions.
The two had even been slated to compete while both at their peaks, with Wanderlei travelling over to America and cutting his infamous "I want to f*ck/fight Chuck" promo.
Politics between the two organisations would get in the way though, and fans would be robbed of seeing the two compete during arguably the peak of their careers.
However, when the UFC purchased PRIDE in 2007, the fight could finally go ahead, and at UFC 79 Liddell welcomed Silva to the UFC with a classic brawl. Though they were no longer in their fighting primes, seeing the kings of the UFC and PRIDE finally go head to head was incredible.
