Eddie Guerreros feud with friend Rey Mysterio reached its highest (or lowest, depending on who you ask) point when Reys son Dominic was added to it. He was told that he was actually Eddies son, and subsequent segments involved Eddie impregnating a random woman and giving that child to Rey and his wife. The storyline took away from what shouldve remained a storyline centered solely on the competition of wrestling. Eddie and Rey were fantastic athletes at the time, and the simple story of how Eddie couldnt defeat Rey one-on-one was so simple yet so effective a story that it couldve written itself. Eddies heel turn and subsequent promos were great, because they underscored the competitive fire that both men had. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ax-F9k3Dry8 Instead, WWE amplified the whole story and drama aspects of their approach, and additional characters, including Vickie Guerrero and a child protective services agent, which mustve made things too close to home for some people, especially those whove had to deal with similar family issues. It makes sense for WWE to use its appeal to make tongue-in-cheek references to social issues, but more often than not, WWE makes it too uncomfortable for people watching by going to the extreme and going for shock and hitting too close to home.
