On the November 2, 1998 episode of Raw Is War, Vince McMahon simply handed Mankind the WWF Hardcore Title.

The championship was a new one, designed to reflect the harder edge the company had taken on over the past couple of years. It was also tailor-made for the Big Boss Man's hard-nosed gimmick.

Returning to the WWF in October, '98, Boss Man had a new, more sinister look. Clad in black SWAT gear, he would win the Hardcore Title from Mankind in a ladder match on November 30.

It would be easy to dub the match throwaway, because it was clearly preparing Mick Foley for bigger and better things (namely the WWF Heavyweight Title) but do so would be unfair, because this particular Ladder Match - whilst short - did make for a fun watch.

Interference from The Rock actually only helped the clash seem more meaningful, and it was nice to see Boss Man given a title run with the promotion so quickly after his comeback.
