In 1991, WWE continued with the tradition of 4-on-4 elimination matches with the first match on the card proving to be the night's best in-ring action; that should come as little surprise considering the specific talents that worked the match.

Bret Hart, Ric Flair, and Ted DiBiase led the way while Roddy Piper, The British Bulldog, and even Virgil followed along quite nicely. Between Flair & Piper, Mountie & Bret, DiBiase & Virgil, or Warlord & Bulldog, each man had an intense feud brewing with a member of the opposite team. The crowd was hot for this opening contest and the action reflected that.

As entertaining as the overall match was, the finish was a bit disappointing when, after the Bulldog and Warlord were eliminated, the referee irrationally disqualified all but one wrestler for fighting outside the ring. The Nature Boy was the sole survivor in his first WWE pay-per-view appearance.

Considering 1991 also featured the first Survivor Series WWF Championship match, as well as the expected reinstatement of 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, this show was not expected to be highlighted by the opening match. With Savage's return held off until Tuesday In Texas and Hogan vs. Undertaker becoming an unmotivated snooze-fest for 11 of 12 minutes, the curtain jerker ended up stealing the show.
