Stomping Grounds wasn't a show that many people watched, at least compared to the majority of WWE PPVs. It will be remembered in history for its notorious main event debacle, the ridiculous name, possibly even the dismal crowd attendance, but what it should be remembered for was the best main roster tag match of 2019.

The unit of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were a perfect heel duo. Not tagging since 2018, the two got into sync again immediately as a merciless duo. Owens and Zayn immediately utilised clever strategy to isolate Xavier Woods, using constant tags to ensure that The New Day didn't get the upper hand until the halfway point. Zayn in particular relished his heel role, providing his trademark offence with fantastic antagonism, riling up the crowd as he destroyed the popular babyface.

Not all the credit can be attributed to Owens and Zayn of course, as the New Day were easily WWE's tag team of the year yet again. Woods remains WWE's trademark tag team babyface, with his selling reaching higher levels of sympathy and brutality with every PPV appearance. Big E continues to prove why he's one of the most underrated big men in the world, making the imposing Owens feel almost insignificant in comparison.

The match was never slow paced and yet managed to build to a perfect crescendo, with the crowd deeply invested in each move and set-piece. The four men put on a minor classic with minimal build, creating fantastic storytelling despite no belts on the line or a concrete narrative. WWE failed to do anything with Zayn and Owens as a duo following this, but it's a testament to how essential these men are in the modern WWE landscape that they left an impression in a spot designed to be forgotten.
