10 Most Undeserving Hell In A Cell Competitors In WWE History

6. Ryback

Ryback's ascent to the top is a case of someone being pushed too hard, too fast. During CM Punk's historic 434 day reign with the WWE Championship, the straight edge heel was feuding with John Cena over the summer, but Cena had to take time off for surgery in his arm. At the same time, Ryback was dominating local talent so the decision was made for Ryback to face CM Punk at Hell in a Cell. The biggest problem with this is in the nature of the Hell in a Cell themed Pay-Per-View. Hell in a Cell matches should be the last resort of a storied rivalry. CM Punk v John Cena in a Hell in a Cell would have made a lot of sense, but Ryback and CM Punk just didn't have enough going for it, heading into the cell. This match was hampered by WWE's need to keep Ryback looking strong, but needing to keep the title on CM Punk. It took a low-blow and a fast-count from referee Brad Maddox to win the match for Punk. WWE eventually realised Ryback wasn't quite ready for the main event, and it wasn't until his demotion to the midcard that he truly found his niche.
