10 Most Unique Fight Finishes In UFC History
1. Edson Barboza Has A Few Tools In His Wheelhouse (UFC 142)
It goes without saying that when a fighter perfectly executes an elaborate manoeuvre inside of the Octagon it can be a thing of purest beauty to behold.
Your writer is personally reduced to the state of gleeful child whenever he sees a fighter successfully pull off a spinning elbow or deliciously timed counter hook.
However, there's one attack that sits head and shoulders above the rest in terms of being both violently unique and visually stunning.
The spinning wheel kick.
Few have dared to try it and fewer still have ever actually landed the insane kick.
Yet, Edson Barboza didn't just land it, he ended Terry Etim's night with it at UFC 142.
Known already as a true kicking specialist - his prowess in Muay Thai and Taekwondo often sitting at the forefront of his opponent's minds - Barboza had been working away at Etim's body with a few of his trademark strikes.
Then, after landing a thigh kick, Barboza sat back. This created some space between himself and Etim which Barboza then chose to take advantage of.
Without warning, Barboza rotated his entire body 360 degrees and landed the purest of spinning wheel kicks on Etim's jaw.
Etim turned into a statue and crashed to the mat with a thud.
A thing of beauty and a horrifying ambush in equal parts, this finish was the epitome of unique.
