10 Most Unique Knockouts In UFC History

2. Niko Price Vs. James Vick - Fight Night 161

Finish: Upkick

A contender for knockout of the year in 2019, Niko Price's astonishing KO on James Vick was just the second upkick finish in UFC history.

Vick's fourth loss on the trot - three of them being knockouts - came in incredibly unexpected fashion less than two minutes into the first round.

With Price on his back, Vick looked to jostle for a better position out of full guard by standing up onto his feet.

First mistake.

He then left Price's right leg completely free while he leaned down towards his opponent looking to land some strikes.

Second, and last, mistake.

Price threw his heel straight into the jaw of Vick, turning the lights off in an instant as he flopped to the floor. Some in the arena and watching on TV even said they could hear the sound of Vick's jaw cracking on impact.

What makes the upkick so special is the fine line the fighter walks between spectacular knockout victory and disqualification loss.

It's illegal to kick an opponent while they're grounded. Basically if they're not standing, regardless of whether or not the other fighter is on the ground.

Luckily for Price, Vick had just stood up long enough for him to catch the kick and take the win instead of the DQ. Anderson Silva was disqualified after knocking out an opponent in a near-identical position that Price found himself in, only that his opponent had a knee down.

Skill, luck and timing. A common theme on this list.
