Okay, so Santino Marella’s Cobra isn’t all that ferocious. In fact, it’s one of the most laughably bad finishing moves in WWE history, albeit one entirely befitting its creator. Santino remains one of the best comedy characters that the company have ever produced, particularly during his Intercontinental Title runs, and the Cobra was his most ridiculous creation.

The move saw everybody’s favourite fake Italian pull a sock designed to look like the titular snake over his hand and forearm, then use it to “bite” the opponent’s throat. The idea that this would be enough to finish somebody off sounded completely absurd, but it worked, and while Santino’s win/loss record wasn’t particularly flattered, he put many an opponent away with the Cobra.

A ridiculous move requires a ridiculous sell, and nobody understood this better than former Cryme Tyme member JTG. Competing against Santino on an episode of Superstars, JTG took the move as if he’d been bitten by an actual snake. His head titled on impact, and his body shaked and convulsed like venom was coursing through his veins on the way to the mat. It’s daft, stupid, and over-the-top… which is exactly what makes it so perfect.
