It's difficult to have a title reign for the ages when no one can actually remember the title you held. Even an international legend like Antonio Inoki couldn't salvage the long-defunct WWF Martial Arts Heavyweight Championship.

Inoki's battles with legends like Muhammad Ali and Andre the Giant have become the stuff of wrestling lore. However, his not so epic showdown with Texas Red (aka Red Bastien) for the Martial Arts Heavyweight title, most certainly has not.

The Martial Arts Heavyweight strap was created to help give Inoki credibility in North America, which it didn't really do.

His initial reign with this long-forgotten title lasted for a whopping 3,780 days. Of course, he only defended it a handful of times.

In Japan, the championship was contested in MMA-inspired exhibition bouts. In North America, the belt was defended (albeit rarely) in traditional pro wrestling matches against lesser-known performers.

The title, which was launched in 1978, was done away within 1989, much to the dismay of absolutely no one.
