4. Sammy Guevara’s Various Misadventures

Cry Me A River Thumb
AEW

Remember when Sammy Guevara first won the TNT title?

He took to saying, to his various TV-level opponents, that they “hadn’t done sh*t” since arriving in AEW. Was this reflective of an entitled attitude?

And has that attitude hindered his elevation up the card?

In 2020, Sammy panicked when he couldn’t find the arranged, gimmicked chair, and threw a shoot one in Matt Hardy’s face, splitting it open. On a taped show.

A year later, he called Eddie Kingson “fat” without his approval in a promo that was scrubbed from the taped edition of Rampage. Guevara was most recently suspended, after defeating Jeff Hardy back in February of this year, for failing to follow concussion protocol during the match (though the argument can be made that the protocol itself is flawed).

Sammy seems incapable of simply getting his head down and going to work. In late 2022 - with little in the way of self-awareness, since he is the common denominator - he bemoaned that “exhausting” drama seems to follow him everywhere, even if he’s minding his own business.

All too often reckless, entitled and self-serving, it’s all a bit of a shame. Guevara, who is genuinely outstanding at piecing together a creative plunder match with minimal contrivance, is in danger of being lapped. If he hasn’t been already.
