10 Most Unsuccessful WWE Tournament Winners
9. Hideo Itami
During Axxess before WrestleMania 31, there was a tournament held to determine the final participant in the second annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Eight members of NXT competed for the opportunity to appear on the Grandest Stage of 'Em All, essentially making their main roster debut on the biggest platform possible. Hideo Itami defeated Finn Bálor in the finals to receive the golden ticket.
Instead of using the battle royal to propel Itami into stardom, or at least showcase his talent to a mainstream audience, WWE simply viewed him as an extra body. He was the seventh man eliminated, tossed out before scrubs like The Ascension and Los Matadores.
Perhaps winning the tournament was a curse as other participants like Neville, Kalisto, Baron Corbin and Bálor all received more significant transitions to the main roster.
