8. Rey Mysterio

When CM Punk shocked the world by winning the WWE Championship and walking out of the company at Money in the Bank 2011, WWE officials desperately tried to name a new champion. An eight-man tournament was designed for the next night on Raw, with semi-finalists Rey Mysterio and The Miz slated to battle for the belt the next week. Mysterio emerged victorious and held the belt…

...for only an hour or so, because he then had to face former champion John Cena, who enacted his rematch clause. As usual, Cena ended the night with his hand raised and the title wrapped around his waist. It rendered the entire tournament pointless, portrayed Cena as a conniving prick, and cemented Mysterio’s status as less than elite.

By the way, Punk returned to the company that same night, agreeing to face Cena at SummerSlam to crown an undisputed champion, nullifying everything that happened over the past two shows.
