10 Most Unusual Locations For WWE Events

9. Mirage Nightclub

Heading into 1997, the Attitude Era hadn't begun yet - but it was clear that the WWF was looking to push the envelope a bit more.

With that in mind, the company introduced Shotgun Saturday Night, a live broadcast airing first run matches in a late Saturday time slot. The feel was more edgy and raw than anything else the company was producing - more in line with the increasingly popular ECW Hardcore TV.

What took the show from cutting edge to weird, though, was that the first episode aired in New York's Mirage Nightclub - not New York City, mind you, New York state, as Mirage was located in Westbury, Long Island, at least half an hour's drive from the city limits. In any event, holding the show in a seedy nightclub probably felt like the "grown-up" thing to do for Vince McMahon, but it didn't catch on - after just six weeks holding Shotgun live in different clubs and other odd locations, the show started being taped in the area prior to Raw each week.
