10 Most Wasted WWE Royal Rumble Spots

10. Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage (Royal Rumble 1992, 1993)

In 1991, Randy Savage hated Jake Roberts so much he forgot the Royal Rumble match's central rule after eliminating his bitter foe. Preventing his nemesis from garnering the main event spot at WrestleMania wasn't enough for 'Macho Man,' though. In the heat of the moment, he hopped over the top rope to continue fighting his adversary. The announcers scrambled to explain what happened, suggesting 'The Slim Jim King' messed up.

At the following year's Royal Rumble, things seemed to be lined up better for Savage. At #30, all he had to do was survive the final moments. Once again, though, Savage spaced the rules of the fairly basic elimination match.

To overcome Yokozuna, 'Macho Man' dropped his patented elbow... and went for the pinfall. The error allowed Yoko to benchpress him over the top rope and win the bout.

Savage's spot in the 1993 Royal Rumble match wasn't a waste due to just his misfortunes. He should have won the entire contest, considering the outcome of Wrestlemania 9. Bret Hart squared off with Yokozuna, only to have 'The Hulkster' show up and pick up the title.

Was it worth it? Probably not, since Hogan was gone by the end of the year. If there was any foresight into his tenure, it would have seemed only logical to put someone else in contention, such as 'Macho Man.'
