10 Most Wasted WWE Royal Rumble Spots

4. Multiple Offenses (Royal Rumble 2012)

Given the number of surprise entries into the 2012 Royal Rumble match, WWE could have very well put on a separate bout for the guests in a promotional (albeit hokey) piece for the January pay-per-view.

The occasional shock appearance can create an entertaining showdown or moment of nostalgia, but there comes the point when too much is too much. Relying far too heavily on throwbacks, the 2012 Royal Rumble saw Mick Foley, Jerry 'The King' Lawler, Ricardo Rodriquez, Booker T (who apparently was pantless), Michael Cole in a tight singlet, Kharma, 'Road Dogg' Jesse James, and 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan all enter the contest.

One or two guest spots would have been acceptable and given the match a few moments of entertainment (or let-me-up breaks). However, with over a third of the entires reserved for special appearances instead of the active roster or even developmental talent, it seemed as though WWE didn't have 30 current wrestlers in the locker room. In 2011, there might have been too many combatants in the Rumble match, but somehow there were far too few by the following year.
