10 Most Well-Developed Characters In Wrestling Today
8. Bianca Belair
The EST of WWE somehow pulls off the trick of being simultaneously superheroic and human. With her incredible athleticism and iconic braid, she’s spectacular to watch, but her zest for the business and the sheer joy she emanates keeps her grounded even when she’s pulling off awesome feats of strength.
Unlike a John Cena, there’s no corporate sheen to Bianca Belair. She feels like a natural talent who has found herself somewhere she can excel, and is having a great time doing it.
WWE have smartly allowed her to speak in her own voice - she sounds a lot less scripted than other performers, and can always sell that she’s talking from the heart. Better still, they’re eager to show just what wrestling means to her when we see her family celebrating her Royal Rumble win, or acknowledging her real life marriage to Montez Ford.
Like Kurt Angle before her, Belair feels legitimate thanks to her athletic background, and with your suspension of disbelief that much stronger, it’s far easier to buy into the character, even at her most broad.
