10 Most Well-Developed Characters In Wrestling Today
2. Hangman Adam Page
Patient, layered storytelling and pro wrestling don’t always go together. With the best will in the world, teasing out a narrative over months is a risky game. An injury could kibosh your ending, reactions might not be as expected, fans might get bored.
So the work AEW did with Adam Page is all the more remarkable for just how long they spent crafting his character. Page started life in AEW as a lesser member of The Elite, but grew into a deep, flawed, perfectly drawn hero for our times.
Page can kick ass and take names, but at the same time he battles with his own self confidence. His was a story of betrayal and redemption, kicked out of The Elite then embraced by the Dark Order. Through the power of friendship and hard graft he kicked his booze habit, focussed, and rose to the top of the heap in a cathartic win over former partner Kenny Omega.
Page’s story has been a saga, and now as champion there are all kinds of directions he’s free to go in. It has been narrative-led wrestling at its very best.
