WCW had lost (and were continuing to lose) a lot of viewers in 2000. Their headline acts were stale and were losing the Monday Night Wars, but the one ace up their sleeve was Goldberg. The former Power Plant trainee was a phenomenon and quickly became one of wrestling's biggest stars. If you want proof, just know that TV guide picked Goldberg over Stone Cold Steve Austin as its cover star in 1998. Goldberg returned to WCW from an injury in May 2000, aligning himself with Kevin Nash. The people were still behind Bill and WCW finally had a guy that people still really cared about. Then at The Great American Bash in June, Goldberg speared Nash, turning heel and joining the New Blood. This is without a shadow of a doubt the worst heel turn ever. WCW had one guy left that people wanted to see and cared about and they turned him heel just for the sake of pulling a swerve. The turn lasted eight weeks before WCW tried to make him a hero again, but the audience didnt buy it and Goldberg spent the last few months of his WCW tenure trying to make people forget he'd ever went bad. The one star that could help turn your business around because the fans love him, and Russo turns him heel? W. T. F.
