WWE invested a ton into Bray Wyatt's 'Fiend' character between 2019-2021. Of course, the company's much-maligned creative processes also undermined the gimmick countless times, but still - no-one really predicted that they'd cut their losses or that Wyatt would get so frustrated to leave.

On 31 July, WWE announced that Bray's 12-year stint had come to an end. Fans bemoaned the lack of solid payoff for the 'Fiend' persona, and many even pointed fingers at the writers for failing to capitalise on a character they truly believed in. WWE didn't care. Their machine rolled on unabated. Typically, it was like the 'Fiend' hadn't even existed.

He had though, and it is true that the E's creative forced bungled his potential big time. The 'Fiend' was one of wrestling's most pulsating ideas when he hit the scene like a sledgehammer in July 2019. Seeing that magic misused and then cast out was puzzling.
