10 Movie Characters WWE Should Base New Gimmicks On

5. Willy Wonka (Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory)

Movie Gimmicks
Paramount Pictures

Some of the most-beloved wrestling gimmicks of all time were based around fun-loving eccentrics: The Godfather, Too Cool, Team ECK, and at least two of Mick Foley's personas. There's still room for silliness in pro wrestling, as successful gimmicks like New Day have proven, but in order to keep them from feeling one-note, there needs to be a little more to the character than cartoonish antics.

A Willy Wonka-type would bring a lovely bit of whimsy to the WWE, but just as importantly, there'd be a subliminal layer of menace that would make him mesmerizing to watch. Remember Matt Osborne's original version of Doink the Clown? It would be like that. Which was awesome.

Like a more free-spirited, oddball version of Ted DiBiase's Million Dollar Man, this Wonka-ish character might hold his own tournaments -- promising his own riches as the top prize -- simply for his own amusement.

There would be a plethora of possibilities for a gimmick like this, provided WWE creative didn't go all Kizarny with him.
