10 Movie Characters WWE Should Base New Gimmicks On
6. Simon Phoenix (Demolition Man)
For a lot of the characters I'm listing, we're picking and choose only a few of their traits and identifying features because some of their personas simply wouldn't transfer to the world of wrestling. That's not the case with Wesley Snipes' character from Demolition Man, psychotic career criminal Simon Phoenix.
If he's being used as a gimmick in WWE, I want it all: The bleached blonde mowhawk thing, the overalls, the ridiculous one-liners, the king of the street gangs mentality. All of it. Along with his sweet spin kicks, because why the hell not?
Phoenix is easily the coolest, most underrated villain to be featured in any Sylvester Stallone movie, and his brand of brash cockiness is emboldened by his athleticism and ability to rally the "underlings" of the city. A Phoenix-type could easily unite a rag-tag group of disenfranchised wrestlers to attempt an overthrow of the organization, like an nWo but with a clearer mission statement.
In fact, you could even keep the bit about him being a relic from the past. Maybe not literally, as the character was cryogenically frozen and then reanimated 35 years later. But maybe he clings to the past, like, emotionally? That could work.
