9. Cesaro And Sheamus Learn The Details Of Their “Championship Opportunity”

It was an almost laughable suggestion that over the weekend Sheamus and Cesaro would draw in Match 7 of their Best-of-Seven series, prompting an odd couple alliance reminiscent of Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit in 2002. The initial reaction to it ranged from indifference to hatred, but the general consensus was that it was never going to happen…and then it happened.

What shall we do now? Laugh? Cry? Curse?

What once seemed a vehicle to perhaps get Cesaro to the next level at best or to at least reinvigorate the long since floundering status of Sheamus as a main-event caliber talent, was instead used as a strange way to create a new tag team. Time will tell what the end result may be, but for now – one night after Cesaro and Sheamus won the crowd over with their hard-hitting, arguably show-stealing PPV bout to inconclusively end their series, mind you – they will be the challengers to the record-seeking New Day’s Tag Team Championships.

On the bright side, Angle and Benoit’s temporary tag team excursion proved a memorable footnote to their respective careers. The initial interactions between Cesaro and Sheamus once they learned of Mick Foley’s decision to pair them up were two of the most entertaining segments that either of them has been involved in for quite some time.
