10 Must See Vader Matches
7. Vs. Hulk Hogan (WCW SuperBrawl V)
Despite being the clear heel, Vader received some cheers from hardcore WCW fans who had already tired of Hulk Hogan's babyface hero routine by February 1995. At SuperBrawl V, both worked one of Hogan's better WCW matches, and it showed Hulk's awareness; he understood the importance of a threatening adversary.
For proof, listen to him remark, "he's too strong" after trying to muscle Vader to the mat. That, along with Bobby Heenan's heel-supporting colour commentary, help make the match great.
It's also interesting to see Hogan resort to using a steel chair outside the ring and Vader powering his way out of Hulk's patented leg drop on a one count. This was how to build a heel, even if the live crowd apparently wanted Vader to splat the WWF incomer and take his World Title.
The schmozz finish, due to a Ric Flair run in, shouldn't detract from the fact this is one of Vader's finest moments. It's way better than the pair's more popular Steel Cage effort from Bash At The Beach the same year, and it showed what Vader could have been had the WWF snapped him up as a Hogan foe years before.
