10 Myths About Brock Lesnar That Are Entirely False

9. The Disappointing WrestleMania Match With Ambrose Was All His Fault

During Dean Ambrose’s appearance on the WWE Network’s Stone Cold Podcast, the WWE world champion decided to lay the blame for his underwhelming WrestleMania match solely at the feet of his opponent. He said that he was “met with laziness” and “Brock’s gonna be Brock”, implying that none of his ideas were taken seriously and Lesnar had no interest in making the match anything special.

Fans immediately jumped on this narrative and ran with it, and online forums and social media soon became flooded with people accusing Brock for the disappointment that was their featured bout. While Ambrose may be telling the truth with his accusations, if you were to look at the pairing objectively there isn’t much to suggest the match would have been anything near a classic no matter how much effort both men put in.

Sometimes two performers just don’t have any in-ring chemistry, and Ambrose/Lesnar was a prime example of such. For all his many talents, Dean isn’t the most impressive worker; his offense is weak and sloppy, his moveset is limited, and he throws some of the worst punches in the business. Booking him as a threat to Lesnar was never going to work, and the build to the match gave every indication that it would be little more than a squash.

The decision to introduce weapons that had no chance of being used in today’s PG environment – a chainsaw and a barbed wire baseball bat – only hindered the match and had fans waiting for spots that weren’t coming. Could Brock have done a little more to add to the match? Probably, but this idea that he single-handedly prevented the two from putting on a classic is absurd.
