10 Myths About Brock Lesnar That Are Entirely False
8. He Doesn't Care About MMA
This criticism comes more from mixed martial arts fans than it does the pro wrestling crowd, but a common refrain you hear from Lesnar detractors is that he doesn’t care about MMA, he’s only in it for the money. While it’s true that The Beast’s prime motivator is cash, I think it’s apparent that, if all factors were equal, given the choice between the two he would choose fighting for the UFC over working in WWE.
Brock Lesnar is a competitor at heart, and you don’t win NCAA and UFC heavyweight championships without a tremendous amount of drive and hunger. From day one, Lesnar’s foray into the pro wrestling landscape was due solely to the money he was offered, and had MMA been as lucrative in the early 2000s as it is now, you can bet he would have gone in that direction instead.
That hunger and the desire to see if he could still compete on an elite level is what brought him back to the Octagon for UFC 200, and despite the lingering suspension over the USADA test I wouldn’t be surprised to see him back in the cage again. He made more from his fight against Mark Hunt than an entire year of his WWE contract, but for a man like Lesnar, he wants to test himself against the very best, and he’s always viewed wrestling as more of a performance art than an actual competition.
