10 Negatives Heading Into WrestleMania 33
1. “The Ultimate Thrill Ride” Ballyhoo
WrestleMania: It's The Ultimate Thrill Ride. Catchy, isn’t it?
No, no it’s not. Especially when it’s shilled as often as it has been in recent weeks on just about every facet of WWE programming.
Despite the fact that WrestleMania already has about 101 nicknames to choose from, this year, WWE felt the need to add “The Ultimate Thrill Ride” to a repertoire that already includes the Show of Shows, the Granddaddy of Them All, the Showcase of the Immortals and a number of other monikers.
It may seem like a rather petulant point, but the issue with this latest buzz phrase is that it just makes the occasion feel even more forced, unnatural and over-produced: three qualities that I can’t imagine anybody is particularly keen to see in a pro wrestling show.
Of course, there is at least one silver lining here in that, once the show is done, we’ll no longer have to hear this phrase on WWE TV approximately 3,000 times per week. That in itself sounds like reason enough to be excited for WrestleMania 33. That, and the added bonus of seeing some of the absolute biggest names in the business in action.
