10 New Directions For AEW After Double Or Nothing 2024

7. Toni Storm & Mariah May Imploding

Mariah May tried to throw the towel in for Toni Storm during the champ's match vs. Serena Deeb, but Luther stopped her from doing so. That's something to keep a beady eye on, and it'll be mentioned when the mentor and protege finally blow up and split. That was seemingly always the long-term plan anyway.

If May going after the title stops this slow drip of one-off challengers and produces a proper feud for 'Timeless' Toni, then good - that's what she needs heading into the second half of the year. A certain title switch over on the TBS side means Storm's belt is under threat of seeing demotion to the 'B' spot as well.

Over to she and Mariah to prove they're 'A' list material.

Admittedly, Toni did embrace May after the match, but she didn't really catch many of Mariah's title reign-wrecking towel teases. There's every chance AEW will use that moment, and Luther's intervention, come crunch time in the rivalry.
