The Shield triple threat match was always going to happen sooner or later, and WWE have finally pulled the trigger. Whether it comes at SummerSlam or otherwise, we’re about to witness a match that’s been hotly-anticipated ever since the stable split over two years ago.

The match itself would unquestionably benefit from a further few months of build. Seth Rollins has a genuine grievance with Ambrose, who took his title with diversionary tactics and a sneak attack, and Reigns isn’t going to take his defeat lying down either.

Not only that, but there are plenty of shades of grey to explore here. Rollins reverted to heel shortly after his comeback, but his “Redesign, Rebuild, Reclaim” mantra is very easy to get behind, and he wrestled Reigns with real heart and passion last night.

Combined with Ambrose’s underhand (though not unjustifiable) victory and Reigns’ divisive personality, and we have a compelling, history-fuelled, and potentially unpredictable and exciting few months ahead of us.
