10 New Directions For WWE After WrestleMania 34
4. Nakamura As A Heel
Shinsuke Nakamura's "knee to face" promos just weren't convincing before 'Mania. When inside the ring, Nakamura could busy himself with working, and he wasn't tasked with awkwardly struggling his way through stilted dialogue during promo segments that never really needed to make air.
What was the point when Shinsuke said the same thing time and time again to decreasing audience excitement?
As a babyface he was toiling, and it was hard to see Nakamura maintaining any sense of face momentum even if he had beaten AJ Styles to become WWE Champ in New Orleans. Turning him heel was the best thing for him as a WWE character; there's now some intrigue surrounding his motivations for ball-shotting a former friend.
The trouble before Shinsuke's turn would have been explaining another Styles vs. Nakamura title match. As things stand, Styles won fairly and he doesn't owe Shinsuke another crack at the belt. At the same time though, a proud babyface like him will surely want revenge for being socked in the groin.
